- is the last but one topic really suitable for the WGAD? I would suggest to drop it.
- the heading of the first should be 'The imlications of terabyte databases ...' : Although it is Tbyte, MHz, the standard says 'terabyte' and 'megahertz'.

Thanks for the input Wim. I think the issue of career recognition is one that deserves some discussion, and I'd like to keep it on the agenda. It's not clear that it's something that is being discussed in other fora, and it's of direct relevance to astronomy since keeping people with appropriate skills in the astronomy data field is challenging if there is no clear career path. Maybe the question needs to be posed more carefully, perhaps, but the underlying issue remains. How do we attract, train, and retain people with the good IT skills for working with and for projects amassing huge volumes of astronomical data? Or do we reject that notion as simply too hard, that doesn't fit in with the existing astronomical research career path [i.e., publish, get grants, publish more, get a postdoc, get more grants, publish more, get a continuing job], and accept that we need to pay for professional IT personnel on either a contract basis, or within a larger overarching structure (such as a University/Centre/etc)?
